Engineering Technology

KRW's engineering group employs state of practice software packages as problem solving tools. The backbone of our business software is the latest Microsoft® product line including Word, Excel, Project, FrontPage and Outlook. We utilize a software product called BigTime to track project time and direct costs and to perform budget management. This program integrates with our accounting software and Microsoft® Project to provide a powerful project management tool kit. The latest version of AutoDesk's Land Development Desktop is the backbone of our civil design and drafting software. We also utilize various commercially available software packages for environmental and engineering analyses (e.g., HELP, AquaChem, various hydrological and groundwater models, etc.). In addition we have developed two effective software programs to benefit our clients as described below.

Computer Maintenance Management System Software (CMMS)

KRW currently utilizes a computerized maintenance program developed in house called "CallMaintenance". Initially, this program was specifically used to track maintenance activities for a large landfill gas extraction system for which KRW provides all operations and maintenance. Since its inception in 1991, the CMMS has been upgraded and expanded to chronicle maintenance activities and to alert personnel of scheduled monitoring, sampling, reporting and other permit requirements at sensitive environmental sites including groundwater remediation sites, industrial wastewater treatment plants and landfill facilities.

The main features of the program include:
  1. The program allows the user to define numerous sites, multiple sites to a client, multiple systems
(e.g., gas blower) to a site and multiple subsystems (e.g., blower belt) to a system.
  2. Preventative maintenance tasks are assigned to each system and subsystem.
  3. The user selects a schedule for each maintenance task.
  4. Computer generated "to-do" task lists can be generated and printed for field technicians. Tasks can be assigned to and prepared for a specific department or technician
  5. The program allows cost tracking for performed maintenance.
  6. Health and safety and maintenance instructions can be included for each system, subsystem or task.
  7. Reports can be generated that document the maintenance completed on the system.
  8. Nonscheduled maintenance entry and notes can be attached to each system or subsystem maintenance history to be included in reporting.

Maintenance programs primarily fail due to lack of continuous implementation methodology as a result of overly complicated program logic or inadequate training. "CallMaintenance" is easy to use and can ensure success of any maintenance program by facilitating the scheduling and documenting of important maintenance, permit compliance and reporting requirements associated with various projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL STATISTICS Software (esS)

In 1991 KRW began developing statistics software "AquaStat" to evaluate routinely collected environmental data. Specifically KRW uses the software to evaluate and report on groundwater monitoring data for solid waste landfills in compliance with Federal and State requirements. We began developing the program at a time when the available statistics software was mostly DOS-based and cumbersome. In addition, most available software was and is largely "black-box". It was important that as users we understand the various statistical tests. Development of the program provided insight into the applicability of the various statistical tests and the ramifications, to the decision-making process, of wrongly applying statistical tests to data. The program is based in Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic. One key advantage of this approach is that it allows preview of all analytical data in a single spreadsheet thereby allowing the use of inherent spreadsheet functionality in testing and presentation of the data.

A few of the AquaStat features include:

Surveying Technology

KRW's surveying division has always employed the cutting edge in surveying technology. It is our philosophy that combining experience and proven technology we are able to provide unparalleled service and accuracy at a reasonable cost.

Management Technology

The backbone of our survey business software is the latest Microsoft® product line including Word, Excel, Project, Front Page and Outlook. We utilize a software product called Big Time to track project time, costs, and budget management. This program fully integrates with our accounting software and Microsoft® Project to provide us with an extremely powerful project management tool kit.

Software Technology

At the center of our civil design, land use, surveying and drafting is the latest version of AutoDesk's Land Development Desktop. The ability of AutoDesk® to merge with our Leica Ski Pro® GPS software, TDS® and Sokkia® conventional surveying software allows KRW surveyors to be on each project with full calculations and mapping layouts at their disposal. Intelligent use of the software allows us to eliminates wasted effort on field calculations. In addition, on many of our projects KRW surveyors carry powerful laptops to efficiently accommodate design changes and unforeseen problems. Through the use the latest software, the experienced personnel at KRW are able to push the envelope in efficiency and cost savings for our clients.

Hardware Technology

KRW utilizes the latest proven survey equipment including Leica GPS, Leica Robotic Total Station, Sokia Total Stations and Sokia digital and conventional levels. We use our Leica GPS systems in all areas of surveying including control, topographic and construction surveys. The vast knowledge of Global Positioning Systems within the KRW survey division allows for unsurpassed speed and accuracy to be provided to our clients. When Conventional Surveys are required we are able to fit the bill with a fully-Robotic Leica Total Station or Sokia Total Station enabling us to run one or two man crews. Our survey toolbox also includes Sokia Digital Levels allowing us to establish high precision vertical control in much less time resulting in higher efficiency and cost savings.

The most modern equipment in the world is not worth anything unless it can make it to the job site. We are committed to maintaining a fully stocked late model transportation fleet including an ATV for hard-to-access sites. The ATV also greatly increases the speed of GPS topographic mapping for certain applications. Use of a company airplane also allows us to serve the entire Rocky Mountain West by delivering crews and equipment to diverse project locations. KRW provides complete and fully mobile surveying service to our clients.
